Testimonials from Past Grant Recipients

“Crape Myrtle funds have supported Youth Living Positively, our support group for youth who are HIV positive; Entre Amigos, our safe and supportive leadership development group for LGBT Latinos; and FreeZone, our drop in center which provides a safe space for young LGBT folks ages 13 to 24. FreeZone serves 25 to 45 young people per week, providing not only a safe place, but a hot meal, a stocked food pantry, social service referrals, after school activities, and access to leadership development opportunities.”

—Paula Austin, Executive Director North Carolina Lambda Youth Network

“Although the leader in HIV/AIDS housing in the Triangle area — and arguably in all of North Carolina — ACRA, just like other nonprofits, nonetheless struggles to find adequate funding to support its work. During a time when other AIDS-related charities are being forced to curtail services, with the dependable, growing funding provided by our friends at CMF, ACRA is not only able to survive, but to flourish and grow!”

—Mercer Tyson, Director of Development AIDS Community Residence Association

"El Centro Hispaño has been able to reach out to the Latino GLBT community in several ways because of the support we have received from Crape Myrtle Festival. Entre Amigos acts as a support group and an outlet for social educational issues. It is through the success of this group and the continued support of the CMF that we are able to start another similar program to support the GLBT community. We are excited to announce a new part-time position that will focus on health education outreach programs and workshops for the Latino GLBT community. We appreciate the continued support of CMF.”

—Leslie deRosset, Program Coordinator El Centro Hispaño/Project LIFE
